Plant Description
Plant Description
Bold green centers framed by clean creamy-white edges - the reverse of the classic Spider Plant striping, and somehow crisper for it. The leaves arch straight out and over in long graceful lines rather than curling. It's the same wonderfully easy plant generations have grown on kitchen windowsills, and it does the same generous thing: sends out long stems hung with baby plantlets you can snip off and root. Size: The plant itself reaches 12 to 18 inches tall and about as wide, with plantlet stems arching well beyond that once established. The 4 inch suits a shelf, 6 inch is ready for a hanging basket, and 8 inch arrives full with plantlets often already forming.
Plant Care Instructions
Plant Care Instructions
Light: Bright indirect light keeps the cream edges crisp and encourages plantlets. It tolerates medium light with slower growth.
Water: Water when the top inch feels dry, roughly weekly. The thick roots store water, so a missed week is no disaster.
Humidity: Average household humidity is fine.
Soil and Food: Standard well-draining potting mix. Feed lightly once a month in spring and summer.
Good to Know: Brown leaf tips usually mean fluoride in tap water rather than anything you've done wrong - filtered water clears it up. Snip plantlets once they show small root nubs and pot them straight into moist soil.
Pet Safety
Pet Safety
Pet safe. Spider Plants are non-toxic to cats and dogs. Cats are often drawn to the dangling plantlets and may chew them, which is harmless - though you may end up with fewer babies than you'd hoped for.
Health and Wellness Benefits
Health and Wellness Benefits
This is one of the most generous plants there is. A single plant will hand you a dozen more over a year, and those become gifts, swaps, and windowsills at other people's houses. That kind of small, repeated sharing does more for wellbeing than any air quality claim on a label.
It's also a wonderful plant for a child, or anyone brand new to this - fast, visible, forgiving, and full of obvious results.
The long arching leaves add movement to a hanging spot or a high shelf, softening the top edges of a room without using any floor at all.
